Dear Democratic Friends,

Have you heard? As an Oregon taxpayer, you can give to the Polk County Democratic Party and have your contribution amount refunded to you in full at tax time! It's true. But you must act by December 31^st.

A tax credit is better than a deduction. You get all your money back, not just a percentage. Your tax credit will equal the amount of your contribution up to a maximum of $50 per taxpayer or $100 per couple filing jointly. Click here to contribute now.

The Polk County Democratic Party - your local county party - operates at the grassroots level to encourage citizen involvement and build better leadership in our state and local government. First and foremost, we recruit and support the best Democratic candidates possible for local and state offices. We hear over and over again from candidates how important the early seed money we provide is to their campaigns. In addition to supporting candidates, we campaign for critical ballot measures, train volunteers to canvass and register voters, maintain a visible presence at local events in the community, and organize an office during election seasons.

As Democrats, we understand that good government does not just happen. It must be consistently built, nurtured and held accountable. Without informed and engaged citizens to speak up for the common good, we may be forever ruled by Wall Street bankers, insurance industry giants, and those lobbying for other private interests at the public's expense.

How to earn your 2009 Oregon Tax Credit:

Option 1: Click here to open the contribution screen in a separate window, where you can give securely through ActBlue by major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover). Print and save your on-screen receipt for your tax records.

Option 2: Mail a personal check to Polk County Democrats, P.O. Box 224, Independence, OR 97351. Please include your phone number, address, occupation, employer ("self" or "none" if applicable) and your employer's city and state. WE ARE REQUIRED TO REPORT THIS INFORMATION TO THE STATE AND CANNOT ACCEPT YOUR DONATION WITHOUT IT. We will mail you a receipt.

Either way, make sure to make your donation by the 31^st of December to receive your tax credit for 2009. Even if you've already taken advantage of your 2009 Oregon Tax Credit for Political Contributions, we still welcome your donation and support! Donations made in 2010 are eligible for the 2010 tax credit.

Because it's a tax credit, you get back what you give, dollar-for-dollar, in the form of a reduced tax bill, or even a refund. Your donation is not a deduction, and you don't have to itemize deductions to take it.

The credit for qualified political contributions given within the calendar year is limited to $50 per taxpayer, or $100 for couples filing jointly.
