Polk County Democrats Central Committee Minutes
December 10, 2008
Salem Electric, Salem Oregon
6:00-7:00 pm - A social hour was held as a tribute to those who volunteered during the recent election cycle. Suzi Price formally thanked the outgoing officers for their work during the past two years.
Present for the business meeting: Fritz Ulrich, Dolores Mlynarzik, Sue Olmstead, Beth Fleisher, Fred Jones, Lois and Dale Deroin, Aaron and Michelle Felton, Truman Price Rich Riggs, Ron Dodge, Colleen Lemaire, Lani Kirby, Jackie Pierce, Pete and Linda Christensen, Jason Brown, Lisanne Pearcy, Timothe Seelbach, Alan Holland, Suzi Price, Gloria Holland.
Chair Alan Holland called the meeting to order at7:17.
Rich Riggs moved and it was seconded that the committee accept the October and the November minutes. The motion passed.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Treasurer Linda Williams was not present, due to an illness in her family. Chair Alan Holland reported that the Central Committee has about $2000. A full report will be available at a later date.
STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE: Jason Brown reported that the Democratic Party of Oregon State Central Committee elected three people to attend the National Democratic Party convention. New officers for the DPO will be elected at the state Central Committee Meeting to be held in March.
5th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT: Timothe Seelbach reported that the next meeting will be held in January. On Monday, December 15 at noon in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol, the Oregon Electoral College will meet to officially elect Barack Obama as President of the United States of America. All are invited to attend.
MEETING DATES: Alan Holland reported that he has reserved the 3rd Thursday of every even month in 2009 at the Salem Electric building for the Polk County Central Committee to meet. The newly elected officers will be able to confirm these dates with Salem Electric.
PEACE VIGIL: Truman Price reported that the peace vigil, which has been held every Wednesday afternoon in Monmouth, has been cancelled for the winter months.
BUDGET: Alan presented a planning document/budget for 2009, which was presented only as a guideline for the new executive committee to consider.
Alan presented a proposal for consideration by the new executive committee that includes money for travel re-imbursement to officers.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Timothe Seelbach reviewed the rules for electing officers to the Polk County Central Committee. Jason Brown moved and it was seconded that the central committee accept the slate of nominees to their respective offices. The motion passed.
The following persons were elected to the executive board:
PRESIDENT: To be determined
VICE PRESIDENT: Lani Kirby
TREASURER: Fred Brown
SECRETARY: Beth Fleisher
The following persons were elected as delegates to the 5th Congressional District: THESE NAMES NEED TO BE REPORTED TO THE STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.
Delegate: Timothe Seelbach
Delegate: Jason Brown
Delegate: Richard Riggs
1st Alternate: Sue Olmstead
2nd Alternate: Dale Derouin
The following people will serve as delegates to the DPO State Central Committee:
PCD Chair: Currently vacant
PCD Vice chair: Lani Kirby
Delegate: Alan Holland
1st Alternate: Jackie Pierce
2nd Alternate: Jason Brown
3rd Alternate: Colleen LeMaire
Jason Brown moved and it was seconded that the central committee elect Lani Kirby and Fritz Ulrich as Precinct Committee Persons in the district in which each resides. The motion passed.
The next meeting will be held on January 8, 2009 at 7:00 pm at Christ Church in Monmouth, Oregon.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
