Polk County Democrats Executive Meeting Minutes

April 1, 2008, at the home of Suzanne Price

Present:  Alan Holland, Gloria Holland, Linda Williams, Suzi Price

 

Alan distributed and reviewed a handout designed to help voters learn how to become a PCP.  Linda suggested that Alan add to the Hand Out something about the perks of being a PCP and alan agreed to rewrite the document to include duties and responsibilities before sending it out.

 

Suzi taught Alan how to send an e-blast.

 

The Litter Patrol is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 10:00 AM in Rickreall.

 

An Obama canvass will be held at Bagels and Bistro  on Saturday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

 

An e-mail blast will be sent regarding an Obama campaign press conference to be held April 2, 9:30 AM at the Capitol in Salem.

 

Alan suggested that the PCD have a candidate forum for the 5th Congressional District candidates and he will work toward that goal.  Alan will suggest to Wayne Baum that Polk County work cooperatively with Marion County.

 

Neighbor-to-neighbor:  PCP expectations need to be defined.  Alan will ask Autumn Wilburn of the DPO when the  N2N leaders will be set and how groups will be assigned.

 

Linda Williams and Jackie Pierce and Alan are delegates to the DPO Platform Committee, to be held April 11-13 at the Eugene Hilton. 

 

Linda will send Alan information so he can send thank you letters to donors who have given $50 or more in cash or over $100 in kind to the PCD.

 

Suzi discussed a Tax Workshop about Board Policies.  She asked if the board could allow $20 for Timothe Selbach to go.  It was agreed that the $20 will come out of the "Process and Rules" Budget.

 

Voce Hispana will be held on April 12, starting in Independence.

 

Suzi explained that an e-mail letter from Jill Thorne, DPO Vice Chair was sent for the purpose of explaining the DPO's stand on endorsing non-democratic candidates. The policy is to deny access to the DPO Voter file to counties that endorse non-democratic candidates.  A discussion of the issue followed.

 

Suzi distributed a handout charting the level of support the PCD's offer for each office or issue ranging from the Federal to the District levels of government.
