Regular Monthly Meeting of the Central Committee, November 8, 2007
Christ Church, Monmouth, Oregon
Social time - 6:30-7:00 PM.
19 Present to hear speaker: Linda Williams, David Papen, Dick and Marilyn May, Susanne Price, Fred Brown, Jason Brown, Lisanne Pearcy, Alan Holland, Gloria Holland Smith, Tim and Susan Deschler, Jim Roten, Joshua Roten Tom Ferron, David King, Terry Carlson, Josh Bellach.
Lisanne Pearcy introduced the guest speaker, James Reismiller, from Abundant Solar, who spoke about Alternative Energy.
Alan Holland introduced Josh Ballech, who gave a debriefing on the successful campaign for Measure 49.
Present for the business meeting: Linda Williams, David Papen, Jason Brown, Lisanne Pearcy, Fred Brown, Don Wilson, Dick and Marilyn May, David King, Jim Roten, Joshua Roten, Alan Holland Gloria Holland Smith, Susanne Price, Tom Ferron.
Chair Alan Holland began the business meeting at 8:19. A.Holland distributed appreciation certificates to David King, Lisanne Pearcy, and Dawn Reynolds.
Minutes: Fred Brown moved to approve the minutes with attachments. Motion passed.
Treasurer's report: Treasurer, Linda Williams distributed the financial report. There was no comment or action on the report.
Committee Reports:
Finance and Fundraising: Fred Brown reported that a fundraising letter will go out to Polk County Democrats within the week. He asked for volunteers to phone Polk County Democrats prior to the mailing. Fred asked those interested to see him after the meeting.
Process and Rules: Alan Holland thanked Susanne Price, Lisanne Pearcy and Timothe Sealbach for their work on process and rules.
Volunteers: David Papen reported that he attended a meeting at which he heard from a representative of the Democratic National Committee who suggested that each Precinct Committee Person visit the same 50 people at least once every 3 months. Papen also asked for Central Committee members to attend a volunteer committee meeting, yet to be scheduled.
Peace Rally: Susanne Price reported that a Peace Rally has taken place every Wednesday since May 1, 2007 in the Monmouth, Oregon City Park. She encouraged people to attend.
NEW BUSINESS:
Tom Ferron moved to approve giving $200 to the Fundraising Committee. Motion passed.
Fred Brown moved to reimburse John Freeburg up to $40 for a T-Post Puller. Motion passed.
Committee Chairs are asked to submit their 2008 budgets and inventories (of what they have in their possession) to the treasurer, Linda Williams, by November 20, 2007.
Alan Holland announced that Oregon Senator Vicki Walker will be our guest at the December Central Committee meeting to be held December 13 at Salem Electric in West Salem. The group expressed a desire to invite Kate Brown to the January Central Committee meeting.
The location of the Holiday Party has been changed. It will be held on December 15, 2007, 6:00 PM at Alan Holland's home, 530 Riverview Dr. NW, Salem. Phone 503-371-3920, or e-mail gloriabhs@comcast.net.
Alan Holland reminded people to contribute to the Polk County Democrats on a monthly basis by contacting your bank. For more information, contact Linda Williams.
Lisanne Pearcy moved that Alan Holland draft a letter to Cindy Kimball to seek to reschedule their film series in 2008 to avoid conflict with our Central Committee meetings. Motion passed.
Fred Brown moved that the Polk County Democrats continue to schedule our meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Motion passed.
Announcements: The Polk County Democrats' Highway clean-up will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007. West Salem residents will gather at the Hollands' at noon to watch a video, then all participants will gather at the Rickreall Fire Station at 1:00 PM.
